Kitschy Wedding Details at A Family Home

Look no further for kitschy wedding inspiration than Kenzie and Troy’s backyard wedding in Southern California. Kenzie brought us on for coordination to help bring all the final logistics together for this amazing day she had planned. We loved seeing all the fun an kitsch wedding details she incorporated to make the wedding day feel truly personal.

It was a chilly spring day in March and we had barely gotten by without going to the rain plan. (Note for March weddings: make sure you have a rain option because our Socal weather is very unpredicatble!) Kenzie chose to have an intimate gathering with loved ones at her childhood home. Let me tell you, this day was full of unexpected quirkiness and so much love all around.

Kenzie and Troy were pretty non traditional with every piece of their day. They were not bothered with keeping away from each other the morning of. Kenzie was in her element getting her hair and makeup done in her parents home, and Troy eased into the day, taking in all the emotions.

When we talked about theme and style, Kenzie described it as psychedelic meets Alice In Wonderland. There were checkers, mushrooms, retro text, vintage napkins, and as much sustainability that we could fit into one day. Kenzie chose an amazing local vegetarian restaurant, Kitchen Mouse to cater the evening. Dried flowers framed with personal Polaroid snaps adorned guest tables. Compost bins were placed around for eco-friendly wedding clean up and all of the cups, plates, and flatware used were composable.

The highlight of the night for me was when Kenzie and both of her parents presented a choreographed dance to a beautiful song that the 3 of them recorded when Kenzie was a child. I didn’t know what to expect, but found myself tearing up in the corner. It was such a sweet and personal moment for Kenzie and her family.

As a Los Angeles wedding planner, I worked with Kenzie in the final few months to build a timeline for the day and communicate with all of her vendors so the plan for the day was clear. With rain in the forecast, we were in constant communication leading up to making our final rain plan decision that week. Thankfully, the clouds parted and the sun shined beautifully on their wedding day.
