5 Reasons You Should Have a May Wedding In Malibu

Truth be told, it’s hard to find a bad month for a southern California wedding. We are blessed with gorgeous weather most months of the year which is why southern California is so popular for weddings. But we have a soft spot for spring weddings and have rounded up the top 5 reasons you should have a May wedding in Malibu, California.

1. Weather

As a southern California native, I’ve grown up knowing the ebb and flow of weather throughout the year. We are sweating and wishing we could wear sweaters in October, and often fretting for rain in March. May ends up being an ideal month for an outdoor wedding. The risk of any surprise showers is gone. The weather is pleasant and hasn’t moved into the unbearable heat that we face in the summer. Malibu weddings also offer that coastal breeze of fresh air which helps to cool things down even if it does end up being on the warmer side.

2. Floral Selection + Blooms of Plenty

May is a month that feels like spring in everything we see and do. Not only are the flowers in full bloom everywhere you look, but the flower market if filled with prime spring blooms. Peony season anyone? Many of the Malibu wedding venues are lush with tree’s and a blooming landscape that often resembles a destination rather than our home of southern California.

If flowers are important to you (they definitely are for me!) then May is the perfect month to have your pick of what kind of wedding flowers you want for your day.

3. No Vacation Clashing

Another great thing about a May wedding in Malibu is that you won’t be fighting with guests time off that they’ve planned for summer. With most families and couples taking summer vacations June-August, most of your guests should have time in the schedule to attend your wedding. This also means YOU will be free and clear for summer travels without having to worry about your wedding plans!

4. Holiday Weekend

Who doesn’t want to take advantage of a long weekend for their wedding? The ever popular memorial day weekend wedding falls in the month of May and is a top choice for couples planning a spring wedding. Whether your wedding is planned for Saturday or Sunday, you will have a little extra recovery time with the long weekend. This is a VERY popular weekend for weddings in Malibu so don’t be surprised if venues or vendors up their prices for this coveted date!

5. Beginning of Wedding Season

If you’re planning your own wedding, it’s likely you have a few to attend as well. Having your wedding early on in the year not only will put you first ahead of the other weddings on the schedule, but you will also avoid wedding fatigue. Wedding fatigue is what sometimes sets in for guests later in the year during fall weddings after they’ve attended a number of weddings and events for the year. A May wedding will bring guests eager for celebration and a good party.
